Safeguarding Policy
Last reviewed: April 2026 · Version 1.0
TheLightConsult is committed to the safety, dignity and protection of every person who uses our platform — especially the most vulnerable. This policy sets out our commitment and the steps we take.
If you are in immediate danger
Please contact your local emergency services immediately (999 in the UK, 112 in the EU, 911 in the US, 199 in Nigeria). Do not wait for a response from our team.
1. Our Commitment
TheLightConsult believes every person has inherent dignity and worth. We are committed to creating an environment free from abuse, exploitation, and harm. This applies to all users — seekers, advisors, and administrators — and across all interactions on the platform.
We recognise that people reaching out for spiritual guidance may be in emotionally vulnerable states. Our advisors are expected to hold pastoral relationships with the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
2. Scope
This policy applies to:
- All registered users of the TheLightConsult platform
- All advisors operating under a TheLightConsult profile
- All staff, contractors and administrators with access to user data or the platform
- All session interactions, messages, devotional content and community features
3. Definitions
Abuse
Physical, emotional, sexual, financial or spiritual harm caused by one person to another.
Exploitation
Taking advantage of a position of trust, power or vulnerability for personal gain.
Spiritual abuse
Using religious authority to manipulate, coerce or harm another person. This includes pronouncing curses, manufacturing false prophecies for financial gain, or using scripture to justify control.
Vulnerable adult
Any person who, due to age, disability, mental health, bereavement, crisis or other circumstance, may be at increased risk of harm or exploitation.
4. Advisor Code of Conduct
All advisors on TheLightConsult are required to:
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all session content
- Never use their position to solicit money beyond the platform's standard session fees
- Never engage in romantic or sexual contact with seekers
- Refer seekers to qualified professionals (counsellors, doctors, social workers) when the need exceeds the scope of spiritual guidance
- Immediately report any disclosure of abuse, self-harm intent, or harm to others to our safeguarding team
- Complete identity verification (KYC) before operating on the platform
- Not share user data, session records or disclosures with any third party
Breach of this code will result in immediate suspension pending investigation and, where appropriate, referral to relevant statutory authorities.
5. Reporting a Concern
If you experience or witness behaviour that causes you concern, please report it immediately. All safeguarding reports are treated as critical priority and reviewed by a senior team member within 4 hours during business hours.
In-platform report
Use the Support Centre and select the Safeguarding Concern category. This routes directly to our designated safeguarding lead.
Anonymous reports
You do not need to be logged in to submit a safeguarding concern. Email us directly. Your identity will be protected unless disclosure is required by law.
6. What Happens When a Report Is Made
- The report is received and acknowledged within 4 business hours.
- The designated safeguarding lead reviews the report and assesses risk level.
- The advisor or user in question may be suspended pending investigation — this is not a finding of guilt.
- Where there is a risk to life or legal obligation to report, we will contact statutory authorities (police, social services) without delay and without needing your consent.
- You will be kept informed of the outcome unless disclosure would compromise safety or investigation.
- All safeguarding actions are recorded in our confidential safeguarding log.
7. Data and Confidentiality
Safeguarding reports and associated records are stored separately from general platform data. Access is restricted to designated safeguarding leads only. Records are retained for 7 years in accordance with best practice guidance.
Our full data practices are described in our Privacy Policy.
